For decades, animation has lacked diversity behind the scenes. Many studios historically produced stories that did not fully represent Black culture, history, or experiences. Today, Black animators are changing that by creating:
- Original characters inspired by Black culture
- Stories rooted in African history and mythology
- Afrofuturistic worlds that imagine powerful Black futures
- New career pathways for young Black creatives
When creators control their own narratives, they can tell stories that feel authentic and empowering.
