Educational Media Mogul Hotep takes the anime world by storm with its latest rendering, Black Lion and Cubs. In addition, the renowned educator and father is reimagining the anime art form by introducing a familyfriendly brand that features Black heroes.
As the creator, writer, and producer, Hotep is intent on disrupting the 28-billion-dollar global anime industry. While the genre has its roots in Japan, it is now a worldwide phenomenon with a solid fan base in the Black community. But with so few AfricanAmerican characters depicted in the art form, this audience longs for characters that look like them.
Black Lion and Cubs weaves fantastical sci-fi tales mixed with ancient history to tell epic stories centered around a retired Nubian warlord and his two young sons. Their journeys take them around the universe as they work to bring balance between two opposing Egyptian pharaohs and the queen who is caught in the middle.
While the series brings to life a universe and storyline that celebrates Black and African culture, the phenomenal writing and family-friendly production shift the narrative to include exciting characters and adventures that people of all ages and races can enjoy. Black Lion and Cubs has already made history by becoming the first independent anime brand to launch a comic, cartoon, album, and video game on the same day. And Hotep says he has his sights on making his series “the next biggest thing since Dragonball Z!”
